The style of practice here is based in the Rinzai Zen Buddhist tradition. The Zendo is located in the midst of 18 woodland acres in the rolling hills of northeastern Pennsylvania. This natural sanctuary, abounding with wildlife, offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere for Zen practice. The Zendo makes available the teachings and practice of Zen Buddhism to all seeking it. Zazen (Zen meditation) and present-minded action lie at the heart of daily life and practice at EMZ. While maintaining an ongoing daily practice by a small residency, the Zendo offers a program of events to the larger community for both beginning and experienced students. The Zendo was opened in September of 1998 and grew from the former Zen Center of Philadelphia (Plum Tree Zendo) and from Zendo in New Hope. EMZ is a 35-minute drive from Bloomsburg, 45-minutes from Wilkes Barre/ Scranton, 2-1/2 hours from Philadelphia and 3 hours from New York City. (During the interim periods, the facility is available for meeting and workshop use by groups with interests related to those of the Zendo.)
